Annette Parker ’01
Athlete - Track & Field, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Basketball
During her Whitfield career, Annette excelled in track and field, cross country, field hockey and basketball.
Annette and her sister Phabienne, who was our first inductee tonight, were known as the legendary “Parker Twins.” Together, they established a tradition for excellence in the early years of Whitfield’s track & field program. In 2001 when the Warriors won the Class 2 girls state track & field championship with just six student-athletes, it was the outstanding performances of Annette and Phabienne that made the difference. At that state meet, Annette was the 400M individual state champion with a time of 57.28 which is still a Whitfield record. She was a member of the 4x400M and 4x200M relay teams that both placed second earning critical points for the Warriors.
During the 2000 cross country season, Annette earned a third place individual finish at the state meet, helping the Warriors to a third place finish as a team. She was named a St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete her senior year.
Annette continued her academic and athletic careers at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where she was a member of the Track & Field team and ran the 400M, 800M and 4x400 Relay. She had numerous top five and top 10 finishes in her indoor and outdoor collegiate meets. In 2002, she earned second place in the 400M at the UNC Invitational. In 2003, she was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Annette holds a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication/Advertising from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.A. in Sports Administration from Northwestern University.
